CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

March 23, 2020

Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to inform everyone regarding the current situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). DCFFL remains focused on playing the entire 2020 season and is evaluating all options, including pushing back the end of the season. Daily developments in the news has created an environment of uncertainty. In this time of uncertainty, I want to assure you that Davidson County Flag Football has the health and safety of your child / family as our #1 priority. DCFFL is taking the following measures for the upcoming spring season:

  • Due to the recent news, With schools being shut down until May 15th and with the states mandates the season has been pushed back once again. We are NOT cancelling the season only postponing if needed games will go into the summer months. Teams are being formed and coaches will be contacting their players in the coming weeks.
  • DCFFL Players and Coaches will not participate in pre-game or post-game handshakes, fist bumps, or high fives with opponents or referees.
  • Coaches do not take the player's flags home. All players must take their own flag belts home after each game.
  • Opposing teams must observe the games from opposite sidelines and limit close contact with groups
  • DCFFL Players must bring their own water to every practice and game. Players and Coaches, please do not share water.

In addition, we recommend the following:

  • We recommend coaches use a disinfectant wipe to clean the balls and flag belts.
  • DCFFL Players and Coaches should follow the CDC guidelines for prevention, which include:
    • Stay home when you are sick or feeling ill.
    • Wash your hands more often with soap and water for at least 25 seconds, and dry your hands thoroughly. If soap and water are not available, us an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

By making these simple adjustments, we feel confidently that the spring season will be our best yet! Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this time.

Respectfully,

Davidson County Flag Football League

Flag Football: The Alternative for Concerned Parents

As published in the Wall Street Journal, November 2015...

"Parents nationwide facing the question of when or whether to let their child play tackle football are finding refuge in flag football. In this sport, players pull a detachable fabric strip, or flag, attached to the hips of opposing players, rather than tackling them.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently recommended expanding non-tackling leagues as a way to limit exposure to collisions. Two University of Minnesota physicians go further in an editorial to be published in the American Journal of Bioethics early in 2016, saying public schools should end tackle football programs because of the sport's concussion risks."
